Explosion on Tractor Takes Life of Mrs. Ben Schwartz.

Pretty Prairie, Kans. — An unusual tragedy saddened this community last week when Mrs. Ben A. Schwartz was fatally burned through a gasoline explosion on the farm tractor at her home here last Friday, August 1. The ignited gasoline burned away nearly all of her clothing, leaving her to linger between life and death until Saturday, when she passed away. The constant care of a physician immediately after the accident slightly alleviated her intense pain, but death was considered a certainty as soon as the extent of her injury had been determined.

Funeral services held at the local Mennonite church Monday afternoon were attended by an unusually large concourse of friends and relatives who came to signify their sympathy to the bereaved family. Mrs. Schwartz was an active worker in the Mennonite congregation and was well known in the entire community.
