MENNO DALKE

Menno Dalke, the son of Peter and Maria Dalke, was born on Sept. 7, 1894, at Marion, Kansas and died suddenly in a Salem, Ore. hospital Feb. 1 at the age of 63 years.

At the age of 17 years he accepted the Christian faith and on June 5, 1911, he was baptized by Rev. Michael Klaassen and united with the Herald [sic Herold] Mennonite Church at Bessie, Okla.

He was married to Mary Warkentin on March 18, 1917, at Hydro, Okla. and the same year they moved to Hydro, Mont. where he was engaged in farming for two and one-half years.

In 1920 they moved back to Hydro, Okla. where he was engaged in farming for six years. They came to Salem, Oregon in 1926. Here he was employed by the Oregon Pulp and paper Co. for 16 years. After that he worked for the Marion County Highway Department as carpenter until he was taken sick a week before his death.

Soon after he came to Oregon he united with Emmanuel Mennonite Church at Pratum where he was a faithful member until he was called Home to be with the Lord.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Mary; three sons, Maj. Clayton G. Dalke, stationed at Indianapolis, John W. Dalke of Salem and Richard Dalke of Albany, Oregon; two daughters, Mrs. Clora Mae Singer and Mrs. Gladys Welty, both of Salem, Oregon; seven brothers, Thomas Dalke, Salem, Oregon, Theodore Dalke, Nelscott, Oregon, William Dalke, Ontario, Calif., Walter Dalke, Tulsa, Okla., Paul Dalke, Oklahoma City, Okla., Robert Dalke, Detroit, Mich., Carl Dalke, Homewood, Ill.; 15 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Five brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Feb. 5, with Rev. John M. Franz officiating. Interment took place at the Pratum Mennonite Cemetery.
