Mennonite Weekly Review obituary: 1929 Sep 18 p. 1
Birth date:
BUHLER FARMER MEETS DEATH IN TRAGIC ACCIDENT, MONDAY
Mr. Jacob Franz, a well known Buhler farmer was instantly killed Monday, northeast of Hutchinson, when the car in which he was driving was struck and smashed by a Rock Island train. It appears that Mr. Franz was engaged in trucking hogs to the packing houses located in the eastern outskirts of Hutchinson when the accident occurred at a point about 2½ miles east of Hutchinson Main street where the road crosses the Rock Island tracks just after leaving the Medora pavement. The hogs, which were in a trailer were untouched and not even upset, but Mr. Franz and the car in which he was driving were literally smashed to pieces and scattered over a considerable area near the scene of the accident. Those parts of the remains of the body that could be collected were taken to a Hutchinson mortuary where they will be prepared for burial. Mr. Franz was a member of the Buhler M. B. church and was well liked in the community. The exact date and time of the funeral could not be ascertained at the time this report was received.
