CLEVELAND — Edward C. Taylor, a leader in Mennonite urban-ministry programs for a decade in the 1970s and '80s, died Aug. 24 at the age of 83.
In 1978 Taylor became associate secretary for Mennonite Board of Missions, a predecessor agency of Mennonite Mission Network, in its home missions department.
He was ready to see the Mennonite church grow in urban areas. "We must not be afraid to proclaim that Christ is in our midst and is calling us to a different lifestyle and commitment," he said in the April 1979 issue of Sent, a mission magazine.
He also was an advocate for minority groups, especially in areas of church leadership.
