JOHN P. D. HOFER KILLED WHEN CAR COLLIDES

WITH CITY SCHOOL BUS

Reedley, Calif., June 12 — Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Zion Mennonite church for John P. D. Hofer, who was killed last Friday morning in a collision with a Reedley Junior College school bus four miles southwest of Dinuba.

Mr. Hofer was 55 years of age and he was born in South Dakota. He had resided in the Reedley-Dinuba district for 31 years.

The service was conducted by the Hopkins funeral Home of Dinuba, Rev. Sam Goosen conducting the English service and Rev. A. J. Baerg the German service. Several numbers were sung by the church quartet and interment was in the Zion cemetery.

Mr. Hofer is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Hofer; six children, Mrs. Lydia Hofer, Mrs. Clara Landsendal, Ferdinand Hofer, Clarence Hofer, Wesley Hofer and John Hofer, Jr. There are also two brothers, Paul Hofer and Jacob Hofer and a sister, Mrs. Dave Hofer of Dinuba.

Mr. Hofer struck the right rear of the school bus, throwing the pickup into a righthand spin. He was thrown from the vehicle against a power pole on the corner. The pickup came to a stop facing east after having knocked over several mail boxes on the corner.

The force of the impact caused the school bus to skid crossway in the road and turn over on its left side and slide for thirty feet.

John Gerow and Sam Martzen of the Dinuba ambulance corps responded to the call but when found Mr. Hofer had passed away. Coroner Roy Brooks was called. Mr. Hofer died from internal chest injuries. — Reedley Exponent.
