Freeman Pioneer Died at Age 83

Freeman, S. D. — Jacob M. Hofer, 83, pioneer settler here in the year 1880, died recently at the St. Johns Hospital in Huron. Funeral services were conducted at the Hutterthal Mennonite Church, of which he was a member.

Mr. Hofer was born in South Russia and came to the Freeman community at the age of eight. A retired farmer, he had been a resident of Spink county since 1909.

Surviving are his wife, the former Rachel Hofer, whom he married more than 63 years ago; four sons and two daughters; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
