Newton & Vicinity

Mary (Mrs. Peter) Schenkofsky, retired seamstress of Newton, died May 25 at Axtell Christian Hospital. She was 84. Services were held Tuesday in the Lehigh Mennonite Church with Ernst Harder in charge. Born Mary Ewert, she was married in 1922 to Mr. Schenkofsky who died in 1952. Survivors include a son, Marlin H. Bartel of Lehigh; two daughters, Lucenes Schenkofsky of Newton and Melba (Mrs. Earl) Schroeder of Benton; two brothers, Menno Ewert of Hillsboro and Ed Ewert of Newton; two sisters, Bena (Mrs. William) Penner of Hillsboro and Mrs. Adina Funk of El Dorado; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
