Retired Religion, Philosophy Prof. At Bethel Dies

North Newton, Kan.--Dr. Harold H. Gross, 66, philosophy and religion professor for 21 years at Bethel College, died unexpectedly Aug. 10 of complications from heart problems at Bethel Deaconess Hospital in Newton. Services were held Aug. 13 at the Bethel College Mennonite Church with John Esau and Don Kaufman in charge.

Dr. Gross retired in 1979 from the faculty of Bethel College, where he taught since 1958. His special interests were philosophy and Eastern religions. Prior to his tenure at Bethel he taught at Freeman (S. D.) Junior College 15 years, serving as academic dean 11 of those years.

He was a member of the Bethel College Mennonite Church and the American Theological Society.

Gross was born July 31, 1914 at Freeman S. D., son of Jake T. and Bertha Groves Gross. He married Monica D. Dirks at Pawnee Rock, Kan. on June 8, 1947. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include one son, Cuyler H. of Lawrence; two daughters, Mrs. Yoten (Camille) Tantibanchachai of Dallas, Tex., and Mrs. Calvin (Cheryl) Britsch of Archbold, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Dave L. (Arlene) Hofer of Menno, S. D.; and two grandchildren.
