Gideon Schrock, 94, of Marilla, died Sept. 10. Survivors: wife, Barbara; three daughters, a son, 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was the first Amishman to move to western New York in 1920. At age 20 he began working on a farm his father bought in Akron before the rest of his family from Indiana joined him. As more Amish and Mennonites came in the years that followed, his family was instrumental in founding Alden Mennonite Church. — Steven L Roth
