ANNA BAERG

Anna Baerg was born Jan. 19, 1917, to Peter A. and Elisabeth (Rahn) Friesen in American Falls, Idaho. Her father died when Anna was 1. When Anna was 3, her mother married Henry G. Baerg of Lustre, Mont., and Anna and her younger sister, Elisabeth, were adopted into this new family, joining Henry's three sons.

Anna was baptized by Edward Duerksen on Aug. 30, 1931, and received into the membership of Bethel Lustre Mennonite Church at Frazer, Mont. She transferred her membership to Gospel Mennonite Church, Mountain Lake, Minn., in 1981.

She graduated from Freeman (S.D.) Junior College in 1943 and from Bethel College, North Newton, Kan., in 1945. In 1971 she graduated from the Conservative Baptist Seminary in Denver with a master’s degree in religious edudation [sic]. In 1945 she was ordained as a misionary [sic] under the General Conference Mennonite Church by Alfred Waltner.

Anna was a missionary at Lame Deer and Busby, Mont., with the Cheyenne Indians for several years, at Oraibi and Hotevilla, Ariz., with the Hopi Indians for 25 years, and in Denver with several Indian tribes for 10 years. She retired in 1980 and moved to Mountain Lake. In 1989 she entered the Good Samaritan Village at Mt. Lake. She died there Nov. 2, 1994, at the age of 77. Services were held at Gospel Mennonite Church.

Surviving are two brothers, Arthur of Huntsville, Ala., and Clarence of Glasgow, Mont.; two sisters, Elisabeth Kliewer of Frazer, Mont., and Lena Eitzen of Mt. Lake; and 18 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

Anna Baerg, 77, died Nov. 2 in Mountain Lake, Minn. She had served as a General Conference missionary with the Northern Cheyenne in Montana, the Hopi in Arizona and with several Indian tribes in Denver.
