Iowa Dairy Farmer, Grandson Killed When Car Hits Bridge

Kalona, Iowa. —Double funeral services were held at the English River Church of the Brethren near South English on Oct. 6 for Eli P. M. Miller, 53, and his two-year-old grandson, Michael Lavon Miller, who died in a highway crash on Oct 3.

Officers reported that the car, driven by Mr. Miller left Highway 22 a short distance west of Kalona and crashed into a bridge abutment. Cause of the accident is not known. Both Mr. Miller and his grandson were dead at the scene.

Eli Miller was born near Middlefield, Ohio and was married there to Eliza Wyler. He was a member of the Pilgrim Conservative Mennonite Church, Middlefield. The family farmed at Middlefield until a year and a half ago when they moved to a dairy farm near South English.

Surviving in addition to the widow are six children, Mrs. John N. Miller of Kalona, Mrs. David J. Byler of McBride, B.C., Daniel E. of South English, Ruth, John Mark and Rhoda Mae, all of the home. He also leaves two sisters, five brothers, and nine grandchildren.
