LYDIA M. KAUFMAN

Lydia M. (Flickner) Kaufman, daughter of Peter A. Marta Goering Schrag Flickner, was born on April 15, 1895 on a farm near Moundridge in McPherson County, Kansas. She attended Mound Grade School.

She accepted Christ as her Savior, was baptized by Rev. C. J. Goering and remained a faithful member of the Eden Mennonite Church until her death.

She was married to Christian H. Kaufman on May 2, 1915. To this union were born one daughter and four sons. Mr. and Mrs. Kaufman spent their entire 50 years of married life in McPherson County. They farmed west of Moundridge in the Turkey Creek Valley for 43 years, then retired to Moundridge in 1958. Mr. Kaufman passed away on Dec. 21,1965. Seven months before his death, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

After living alone for two years, Mrs. Kaufman suffered a disabling stroke on June 27, 1967. Shortly thereafter she took up residence at the Memorial Home for the Aged near Moundridge. On July 6, 1973, she was admitted to Mercy Hospital where eight days later she peacefully entered into her eternal rest and reward.

Her family and many friends will remember her for her love of flowers, her joy of reading, her abundant energy, and her keen sense of humor.

Preceding her in death were her husband, two grandchildren, Keith Allen and Jeannie Marie Kaufman, four brothers, three sisters, a half-sister, seven brothers-in-law, and seven sisters-in-law.

She was a loving and concerned mother of five children. Survivors include one daughter and her husband, Ethel and Ed Helmer of Burns, Kan.; four sons and their wives, Virgil and Vernell, and Howard and Neva of Moundridge, Leland and Joan of Winfield, Delmer and Donna of Bennett, Colo.; 19 grandchildren; and one granddaughter-in-law; and great-grandson; two sisters, Mrs. A. C. (Katie) Goering and Mrs. Joe P. (Mary) Kaufman. She enjoyed living with her sister, Mary, the past 18 months. Also surviving her are the following in-laws: Dr. and Mrs. Ed. G. Kaufman, Mr. and Mrs. Ray J. Kaufman, Mr. and Mrs. Paul D. Kaufman, Mrs. Elsie Schrag and Mrs. Martha Smith.

Funeral services were held on July 16 at the Eden Mennonite Church with Rev. Walter Neufeld and Dr. H. A. Fast officiating.
