17-Year-Old Manitoba Youth Drowns During Swimming Outing

Steinbach, Man. — Seventeen-year-old Milton Isaac drowned in the Kleefeld gravel pit the afternoon of June 2 while on a swimming outing with a group of friends.

Using a heavy plank to hold them above water, some of the youths started across the deep pond to the other side. When they were almost at their destination, young Isaac released his hold and attempted to swim the rest of the way. Immediately he sank out of sight and all attempts to rescue him were of no avail.

Help was summoned, and after about two hours of dragging by divers and the RCMP, the lifeless body was recovered.

The youth was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Isaac of Roblin, Man., about 300 miles from Kleefeld, and was working at a Kleefeld honey plant. A short service for the family was held at the Steinbach Funeral Home on June 4, followed by interment at Roblin on June 6. Carol, Raymond and Garry Isaac were called home from Mexico where they were working in the mission field.
