CLARENCE C. MECK
Clarence C. Meck, 78, died in Phoenix, Ariz. on Sunday, Jan. 7, 1973. He had been in failing health for several months.
He was born at Freeport, Ill., on March 11, 1894, the oldest son of Aaron and Emma (Shoemaker) Meck. On Sept 5, 1916, he married Mabel Resh. They became the parents of two sons and three daughters. His principal occupation was farming, and he also was a livestock buyer and trucker. After moving to Archbold, Ohio in 1951 he worked in a factory until retirement. His companion passed away on July 13, 1958.
As a young man he became a member of the Freeport Mennonite Church, later transferring his membership to the Central Mennonite Church at Archbold. He enjoyed music and served the church as song leader for many years. He also was a Sunday school teacher. He loved people and shared his faith in conversation and deeds of love, making many friends.

On June 3, 1960, he married Ilva Kleck Roth. They spent the following two years in Paraguay, serving in the MCC Voluntary Service program. Later they served several VS terms under the Mennonite Board of Missions, completing assignments at Woodland Park and La Junta, Colo., and Maumee, Ohio. They also gave a year of service at Sunshine Acres Children's Home, Mesa, Ariz.
Survivors include his wife, Ilva; five children, Mervin of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., Mrs. Paul (Martha) Sieber of Arthur, III., Mrs. Marlin (Arlene) Schaefer of Phoenix, Howard and Mrs. James (Ethel) Schmucker, both of Archbold; three step-children, Richard of Pettisville, Ohio., Mrs. Dale (Ruth Ann) Nafziger of Archbold, and Mrs. Paul (Alice Mary) Hershberger of New Smyrna Beach; 30 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one brother, Titus, of Freeport; and one sister, Mrs. Silas (Esther) Smucker of Rensselaer, Ind. One granddaughter preceded him in death.
A memorial service was held in Phoenix on Jan. 9 with Rev. Donald Yoder officiating. Additional services were conducted on Jan. 12 at the Central Mennonite Church, Archbold, by Rev. Paul Sieber and Rev. Charles Gautsche. Interment was in Pettisville Cemetery.
