Five-Year-Old Indiana Boy Suffocates in Load of Shelled Corn
Goshen, Ind.--- An accident May 17 at the farm of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Martin on Route 5, Goshen, claimed the life of their five-year-old son, Dana Devon, by suffocation. The boy was in a wagon loaded with shelled corn as it was being unloaded through a gravity flow spout when the corn suddenly shifted and covered him up. His brothers, Keith, 16, and Ernest, eight, tried to uncover him and opened the unloading spout wider to release more of the corn. Dana came through the spout, and was rushed by his mother and brother to the Wakarusa Clinic, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Yellow Creek (Wisler) Mennonite Church by Paul Hoover, James Ramon and Ivan Weaver.
