• Mrs. Helena Bestvater, 87, lifelong resident of the Goessel community, died May 1 at the Peabody Manorial Nursing Home where she had received care since January 1972. Funeral services were held Saturday forenoon at the Alexanderwohl Church, with Rev. Ronald Krehbiel in charge. Mrs. Bestvater, the former Helena Franz, was born near Goessel. She married Abraham Bestvater in 1906, and they farmed near Goessel for many years. He died in 1963. Survivors include three sons, Frank of rural Canton, John and Henry, both of Newton; seven daughters, Mrs. Betty Andrews of Wichita, Mrs. Ray Promenschenkel of Conifer, Colo., Mrs. Herman Peters of Walton, Mrs. James Riekenberg of Sylvan Grove, Mrs. Harry Kasitz of Council Grove, Mrs. Clinton Spencer of Wichita, and Mrs. Harry Moffatt of Newton; 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren
