MARIA E. BULLER

Maria E. Buller, daughter of Peter P. and Elisabeth Wedel Unruh, was born Oct. 4, 1889 on a farm in the Goessel, Kan. community. Here she spent her childhood years. Later, when attending Bethel College, she received her catechistical instruction at that church in a class taught by Rev. David Goerz. She was baptized on June 7, 1908 by Rev. H. R. Voth and accepted as a member of the Alexanderwohl Church. Here she retained her membership.

After having taught in the public schools for a number of years, she married Jacob J. Buller on June 12, 1919. This happy union of a month less than 16 years was severed on May 6, 1935 when her husband died.

She again entered the teaching profession in the fall of 1942. The Lord permitted her to work with children in the elementary schools for 14 more years. After her retirement in 1956 she tried to help some of the children who needed special assistance. Of special enjoyment to her were the last few years when she taught Ranell Voth and saw how much interest he had to learn and how hard he tried under his handicapped condition.

She has taught Sunday school for many years. Mission work was of great interest to her. She helped several children financially to get an education, some in India and later some in Hong Kong through an MCC project.

On June 23, 1972, her way of life was abruptly changed when she had a stroke which damaged her walking, her eyesight and her mind. It was hard for her to adjust herself to this kind of life. She went to the Peabody Memorial Nursing Home on Nov. 1, 1972 where she passed away on March 21, 1973. We firmly believe that she is now united with our father and mother and our stepmother, one brother Peter and three sisters, Anne and Emma who died in infancy, and Elisabeth, who died July 13, 1959.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Unruh and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bartel and family, and many relatives and friends.
