• Funeral services for Henry M. Schroeder, 81, were held the morning of April 5 at the Alexanderwohl Church, with Rev. Ronald Krehbiel in charge. Mr. Schroeder died April 2 at Bethel Deaconess Hospital here. He and his wife, Ida, had resided at Presbyterian Manor in Newton since July 1971. He was a native of the Canton community and farmed there until moving to Newton. Surviving, in addition to the widow, are a son Robert of Inman and a daughter, Mrs. Jacob S. Schmidt of rural Canton; one step-daughter, Mrs. Robert Gordon of Newton; three brothers, Alvin of Goessel, Adolf and Arthur, both of North Newton; two sisters, Mrs. Katie Klassen of Inman and Mrs. Anna Janzen of Clearwater; two stepbrothers, Dave Buller of Newton and Pete Buller of Hillsboro; one step-sister, Mrs. Dave Schroeder of Buhler; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, seven step grandchildren, and seven step great-grandchildren.
