Text of obituary:
MARY GOERING WALTNER
Mary Goering Waltner, daughter of Christian and Katherine Strausz Goering, was born on June 13, 1878 near Moundridge, Kan. and remained a resident of this area until her departure on Dec. 7, 1872, a span of 94 years. Here she completed the public school terms of her day, pursued her chosen interests and received her catechetical instruction.
On May 13, 1898 she married Jacob R. Waltner, who died in 1945. Together they engaged in farming, established their home and reared their five children, one son and four daughters, to maturity. In this home she was a mother of Christian devotion, wise counsel, and love.
She was a member of the Eden Mennonite Church, and until recent months was faithful in attendance, despite great handicaps, at the Sunday morning services. She spent many hours reading her Bible and endeavored to pattern her daily life according to its teaching. This was evidenced in her special concern for missions.
Due to a serious farm accident in 1924 which left her on crutches and braces, she had to sacrifice many religious, cultural, and social activities of church and community. But the Lord was gracious and blessed her with a contented disposition, a keen mind, and a remarkable memory.
Surviving members of her family are her son, Otto J.; three daughters, Anna, Elma, Mrs. Herb Flickner, and Mrs. Olga Schrag; all of Moundridge; nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and four sisters-in-law.
She was the last surviving member in the immediate family circle of Christian and Katherine Goering.
