Henry Franz Pauls of Clearbrook, B.C. passed away on October 18. He was born to Franz and Justina (Penner) Pauls on Decem- ber 10, 1912 in Kudaschewka (Dnjepropet· rowsk Oblast), Ukraine. His Christian father had to stop teaching after the revolution, and the family was very poor. Henry found work at a mill and worked there for 15 years , and this helped support the family. He married Elisabeth Janzen in 1943, and was inducted into the German army a year and a half later. In 1946 he was sent back to the Soviet Union where he had to work in the gold mines of the east for the next 19 years. His wife and children received news that he was still alive in 1956. On July 26, 1965 he was . reunited with his family. While in the hospital in late 1979, the Lord opened his heart and Henry asked Jesus to be his Saviour. Eight days before his home-going he told his wife, "The Saviour will come and take me to himself." He is sur- vived by his wife Elizabeth; son Albert and wife Joyce; daughter Anne and husband Rene de Andrade; four grandchildren; a sister and a brother in West Germany, and a sister in the Soviet Union. The funeral was held October 21 in the Clearbrook MB Church with pastor John Unger, Henry Regehr and John Esau officiating.
