GEORGE ISAAK WIENS

George Isaak Wiens of Clearbrook, B.C. passed away June 10. He was born Sept. 30, 1903 in Alexanderthal, southern Russia to Isaak and Lena (Hooge) Wiens. In 1919 and 1921 his older brother Isaak and his father died of typhoid fever. George accepted the Lord and was baptized into the Mennonite Brethren church in Alexanderthal by John A. Toews. His mother married John Dahl in 1926 the family emigrated to Canada but George stayed behind to do his military service, joining his parents in Dalmeny, Sask . one year later. He married wife Helen on June 24, 1928 and in 1929 they went to B.C. where they bought a 20-acre farm in 1931. The couple belonged to the 27-member group that founded the MB church in Clearbrook in 1937. At the beginning George served as assistant leader and then as choir leader for 12 years. In 1968 they retired to a new home in Clearbrook. George was predeceased by one brother, one sister, two grandchildren, two Dahl brothers and one sister. He leaves his wife Helen; three sons: Aldon and Esther of Richmond, Edward and Loreen of Kamloops, Ronald and Margaret of Abbotsford, all of B.C.; 10 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, three sisters, one brother, three step-brothers and two step- sisters.
