HILDEGARD LEMKE

Hildegard Lemke died Aug. 13. She was born Dec. 9, 1933 in Kaiserslauten, Germany to Hugo and Susan Scheffler. The family moved to Ritzville, Wash. in 1951. Hildegard married Helmut Lemke in 1956 and they established their home in Vancouver, B.C. A graduate of the University of Washington, Hildegard taught high school until the arrival of their first child. Her spiritual journey led her through many phases, both in and out of formal church settings. She was a member of Point Grey Inter-Mennonite Fellowship. As a gifted artist with seemingly boundless energy, Hildegard modelled unconditional love and graciously lived life to the fullest; she was not afraid to die. She is mourned by Helmut; children Michael, Krista, and Hanno, and their spouses; 4 grandchildren. The memorial service was Aug. 25 at Peace Mennonite Church, Richmond, B.C.
