TINA NICKEL

Tina Nickel died Nov. 6 at age 86 after a bat- tle with leukemia. She was born Apr. 17, 1920 in Schoenau, Ukraine to Jacob and Maria Nickel. Her parents died of typhoid when she was 2, so Tina was raised by her grandmother and aunt. The family left Russia in 1943 and spent time in Poland and Berlin before embarking on the long journey to South America. They settled in Rosental, Paraguay, where they lived until immigrating to Winnipeg in 1959. Tina accepted Jesus Ch ri st as Saviour and was baptized April 28, 1946 . After her move to Winnipeg, Tina became a mem- ber of Elmwood MB Church and then North Kildonan MB Church. She worked as a domestic at Concordia Hospital and Misericordia Hos- pital, and was also employed as a cook and housecleaner in various homes. She lived with and cared for her Tante Liese until her aunt's death in 1994. Tina enjoyed exercising, bowling, and attending Bible studies. She was a friendly woman and had a smile for everyone. Tina is mourned by many cousins and friends. The fu - neral was Nov. 9 at North Kildonan MB Church.
