Two Retired Bishops Called by Death

Ephrata, Pa. — Two retired bishops of the Lancaster Mennonite Conference died on successive days.

Bishop Mahlon Witmer, 81, of Landis Homes near Lititz died March 13 at Lancaster Osteopathic Hospital. He was ordained as a minister in 1934 at the New Holland Mennonite Church, and in 1939 was ordained as the first bishop of the newly formed Groffdale District.

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 16, at the Groffdale Church.

Bishop Howard Z. Good, 84, bishop emeritus of the Bowmansville Reading District, died March 14 at his home near Denver. He was formerly owner-operator of Good's Feed Mill near East Earl.

He is survived by his third wife, the former Minnie Eberly, 19 children, 107 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren. Three of his sons and four sons-in-law are ministers.

Funeral services were conducted March 17 at the Bowmansville Mennonite church.
