DIETRICH REGIER

Dietrich Regier, son of Heinrich J. and Elizabeth Gaeddert Regier, was born on Sept. 20, 1891 in Harvey County, Kansas. He died in South Hospital, Hutchinson, on Jan. 5, 1975 at the age of 83.

On June 2, 1912 he was baptized and joined the Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church, where he faithfully participated as long as he was able.

He was married to Katherine J. Reimer by Rev. Peter Flaming in the Hoffnungsau Church on March 14, 1920. One infant son, Milton, six brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Survivors are his widow, Katherine J., a son, Arnold J. and wife Mary Kay of West Liberty, Ohio; daughters, Alfrieda Penner and husband Ervin of Clayton, Ind. and Dorothy Harder and husband Willis of Moundridge, one sister, Justina Schroeder of Goessel; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Theodore Regier of Walton; and 10 grandchildren.

Dietrich was a lifelong farmer in northwest Harvey County where he engaged in raising both livestock and grain. Upon retirement he moved to Buhler where he enjoyed gardening and making frequent visits to the farm.

He supported the church in its various avenues of outreach, especially in the area of missions. He also had a great interest in education. He served on the local elementary school board, and like his grandfather, Dietrich Gaeddert, actively supported Bethel College.
