One Killed, Two Hurt In Freak Accident

Ephrata, Pa. — A freak accident on the Pennsylvania Turnpike near Somerset Feb. 20 claimed the life of a young Amish carpenter and injured his two companions.

Funeral services for Christian L. Beiler, 25, of rural New Holland were held Feb. 24 at the parental Eli K. Beiler residence, also near New Holland. He was employed by Witmer's Coach Shop, and leaves his wife and a young daughter, his parents, brothers and sisters.

Young Beiler and Menno M. Stoltzfus, 28, of rural Leola were passengers in a truck driven by David H. Seibel, 58, of Leola. A truck in the opposite lane lost a wheel, which bounced and hit the windshield of Seibel's truck. The truck crashed through the guard rail and rolled own a 30-foot embankment.

Both Beiler and Stoltzfus were thrown out, while Seibel was binned behind the steering wheel and was hospitalized at Somerset.
