Newton and Vicinity

• Daniel J. Epp, 60, manager of the Mennonite Press at North Newton, died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon at his home in North Newton after suffering a heart attack. He was active in the Bethel College Mennonite Church and in civic affairs in Newton and North Newton. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, served on the Sand Creek Watershed board, and the North Newton Advisory Committee. He was also a member of the Printing Craftsmen Club. Survivors include his wife, the former Frieda Wiens; two daughters, Mrs. Larry Bartel of Kansas city, Kan. and Janet Epp of North newton; one son, Anthony R. of Lincoln, Neb.; two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Thieszen and Mrs. Marie Thieszen, and a foster sister, Mrs. Tena Dick, all of Henderson, Neb.; three brothers, Jacob J. Epp and Herman J. Epp, both of Henderson, and Rev. Aaron J. Epp of Aberdeen, Idaho; and five grandchildren. A private burial service was held Tuesday forenoon, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. in the Bethel College Church. Rev. John Esau and Rev. Esko Loewen officiated.
