• Funeral services for John D. Pankratz, 78, of Goessel were held Saturday afternoon, Dec. 28, at the Alexanderwohl Church, with Rev. Ronald Krehbiel officiating. Mr. Pankratz, a lifelong resident of the Goessel community, died Dec. 25 at the Bethesda Hospital. He married Lydia Wiebe at Hillsboro in 1921, and they farmed on Route 2, Hillsboro. His first wife died in 1968, and in 1970 he married Mrs. Mary Voth. She survives with the following members of the immediate families; sons Theodore of Walton, Erwin of Beachlake, Pa., Harvey of Halstead, and John Willis of Lyndon; two daughters, Mrs. Ross Van Rossun of Newton and Mrs. George Goossen Jr. of rural Peabody; a stepson, Elmer D. Voth of Route 2, Newton; and five step-daughters, Mrs. C. Howard Unruh of Route 2, Newton; and five step-daughters, Mrs. C. Howard Unruh of Route 2, Newton, Mrs. Alvin Schmidt of Walton, Mrs. Milton Duerksen of rural Canton, Mrs. John Schrag of Congerville, Ill., and Mrs. Jerry Schroeder of rural Hillsboro; 21 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and 17 step-grandchildren.
