Burns Prove Fatal To Wife of Amish Bishop in Illinois

Arthur, Ill. — Buns suffered in a home explosion claimed the life of Mrs. Katie Otto, wife of Bishop Amos D. Otto of the Amish church at this place.

The couple were in their home when accumulated gas from a leak under the building exploded. Both were taken to St. Mary's Hospital at Decatur. Otto was released two days later, but his wife, who suffered third degree burns over about three-fourths of her body, was transferred to the Springfield Medical Center. She died a few days later.

The Otto home did not burn, but there was extensive damage to windows, joists and the foundation.
