This community was shocked by the sudden passing of Harold D. Myers, 60, of rural New Paris, a farmer and bishop of the Salem Mennonite church. He was fatally stricken by a heart attack on Aug. 30 while riding a farm tractor. He married Rozetta Flora on Jan. 2, 1938. Surviving are his widow, five sons, a daughter, five grandchildren, three sisters, and six brothers. Funeral services were held at the Salem Mennonite church with Rev. Floyd L. Stutzman and Rev. Walter Keim, pastor of the Toto Mennonite Church officiating. Bro Myers was interested in establishing a new church cemetery, and he was buried in the first lot.

Mrs. Amy V. Shaum, 79, died Sept. 19 at First Federal Nursing Home, Elkhart, where she had been a patient since Sept. 11. She had been in failing health for six months. She married Rev. Warren Shaum in 1916. He died Aug. 5, 1971. She was a member of the Salem Mennonite church. survivors include two daughters, 11 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Salem Church with Rev. Leroy Yoder, a nephew of Harrisburg, Pa., and Rev. Floyd Stutzman officiating. — Mrs. F. Stichter.
