Bluffton Welfare Worker Shot in Face By Assailant
Bluffton, Ohio. — A Lima welfare supervisor was fatally wounded and Roy Henry, caseworker of Bluffton, was shot in the face by a gunman who came to the Allen County Welfare Department offices on Aug. 23.
Mr. Henry, who formerly served in several pastorates of the General Conference Mennonite Church, is reported making a good recovery and was to be released to his home last week. The bullet, which entered under one eye, traveled through his mouth and lodged in his neck, was removed during surgery at Lima Memorial Hospital.
Officers said the gunman entered the welfare offices and asked to see someone about validation of food stamps. He was directed to Mr. Henry's office, and the shooting occurred a short time lager. Donald Q. Hays, 56, of Lima then stepped into a hallway from his office and was shot as the gunman ran to make his escape. Hays died later at the hospital.
A 32-year-old Lima man was apprehended the same day and alter charged with murder.
