Accident Injuries Prove Fatal To Wife Of Retired Minister

Newton, Kan. — Mrs. Cathryn Janzen, 81, wife of Rev. B. H. Janzen of Halstead, died in Baptist Hospital at Oklahoma City on Aug. 17 one week after suffering injuries in an auto accident near Hydro.

She was a member of the Bethel College Mennonite Church, North Newton, where the funeral was conducted Tuesday afternoon by Rev. Esko Loewen assisted by Rev. Robert Suderman of Halstead.

Mrs. Janzen was a passenger in the car driven by her husband when the brakes failed on a hill and the car crashed into a grove of trees. Rev. Janzen was injured but is recovering.

Rev. and Mrs. Janzen had retired from the active ministry about two years ago after having served General Conference churches in a number of states and the congregation at Cuauhtemoc, Mexico.

Surviving in addition to Rev. Janzen are a son, Elmer of Halstead; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lena Gaeddert of Buhler and Mrs. Elizabeth Harder of Meade; four brothers, Ted Janzen of Fresno, Calif., Gus Janzen of Reedley, Calif., Pete Janzen of Newton, and H. L. Janzen of Fairview, Okla. Also surviving is Irene Berry, whom the Janzens raised.
