Bishop Called by Death at Goshen

Goshen, Ind. — Funeral services for Joni H. Beachy, 48, well known bishop of the Conservative Mennonite Church, were held Sunday afternoon, June 16, at the Griner Mennonite Church near Middlebury. Bishop Clarence Yoder, Rev. David R. Miller and Rev. Melvin Shetler officiated.

Bishop Beachy died at Goshen General Hospital on June 13 after having suffered a stroke the day before.

Bishop Beachy had served as minister of the Mt. Joy conservative Mennonite church near here since its opening in 1964. He was ordained to the ministry in 1961 and as bishop in 1963. He also was on the staff of the Rosedale Bible Institute, Irwin, Ohio, was a missionary in northern Minnesota from 1949 to 1956, and for nine years was a board member of Oaklawn Center, Elkhart.
