Former Resident of Newton Killed in Colorado Crash

Funeral services were held in the United Methodist Church at Loveland, Colo., on Saturday morning, June 1, for Alfred Schmidt, 48, former Newton resident who died in a highway accident at Cortez, Colo. on Memorial Day.

Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt and son Warren, 17, were returning home after attending the wedding of their daughter and sister, Marietta, in Phoenix, Ariz. when their car was hit broadside at an intersection by another car. Mr. Schmidt was fatally injured. his wife escaped serious injury, but Warren received severe head injuries and alter underwent surgery at the Greeley, Colo. hospital.

The Schmidt family moved from Newton to Loveland nine years ago.

Surviving Mr. Schmidt in addition to his wife and sons is the daughter, now Mrs. Jeff Tokaiz; his parents, Mr. and Mr. [sic] E. F. Schmidt of Cordell, Okla.; five sisters and six brothers.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schmidt and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Schmidt of Newton attended the funeral of their brother in Loveland.
