BEN PLENERT

Ben Plenert, 79, died unexpectedly at his farm home Friday, Jan. 18. Mr. Plenert, a lifelong resident of the Hillsboro, Kan. community, was born to John and Amelia (Ratzlaff) Plenert on Feb. 26, 1903, on a farm north of Hillsboro. He received his elementary education at the French Creek school.

On Oct. 15, 1930, he married Edna Ewert, the ceremony being performed by his father. The Plenerts established a home at the family farm site and have lived there since that time.

Mr. Plenert was active in the work of the Johannestal Mennonite Church (now Trinity Mennonite Church) into which he was received in 1920. He served as a trustee for 11 years and was particularly interested in the Mennonite Disaster Service. He also served as a school board member for six years.

In addition to his widow, of the home, he is survived by seven children and their families: Mrs. Leonard Hein and Charles Plenert of Hillsboro, Orley of Forrest, Ill., Howard of Lawrence, Willard of Lake Dallas, Texas, Mrs. Clyde Treadway of La Palma, Calif., and Dwight of the home. Also surviving are eight grandchildren (one preceded him in death), a sister, Mrs. Elmer Klassen, and four brothers, Albert, Herman, Erwin and Art.

Services were conducted in the Trinity Mennonite Church on Monday afternoon, Jan. 21, with Rev. Erick Sawatsky and Rev. Loris A. Habegger officiating. Interment was in the Johannestal Cemetery north of Hillsboro.
