Three Youths Killed In Car-Truck Crash

Mercer, Pa. — Three 18-year-old youths of the Amish settlement near here and an elderly couple were killed in a car-truck collision at about 6 p.m. on Christmas Day.

The young men were occupants of the car, and the couple were in a pickup truck. It was several hours before the bodies of the young men could be removed from the car.

Dead are Neal Troyer, son of Dan J. and Lizzie Troyer; John Hochstetler, son of John H. Hochstetler and the late Sarah A. (Byler) Hochstetler; and Melvin Byler, son of Jake M. and Amelia Byler.

Double funeral services for the Troyer and Hochstetler youths, who were first cousins, took place the afternoon of Dec. 27. Services for the Byler youth were held the following forenoon. Among the survivors of the former is their grandfather, Harvey C. Hochstetler.

The Amish settlement in Mercer County is western Pennsylvania is located between mercer and Stoneboro.
