Teenage Amish Youth Of Indiana Killed In One-Car Accident

Goshen, Ind. — A one-car accident near the hamlet of Emma in Lagrange County on Oct. 22 claimed the life of an 18-year-old Amish youth and seriously injured his companion.

Dead is Wilbur H. Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harley E. Miller of rural Shipshewana. He was the driver of a car that skidded out of control on the rain-slick highway shortly after passing an Amish horse and buggy. The car crashed into a tree on the driver's side.

Suffering a ruptured spleen and other internal injuries was Olen J. Hershberger, 18, of rural Lagrange. He was taken to Lagrange County Hospital and then transferred to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.

The Miller youth was employed by Starcraft Co. at Topeka.

Surviving in addition to his parents are two sisters and four brothers, all of the home; and grandparents, Mrs. Lydia Bontrager of Shipshewana, and Mr. and Mrs. Enos E. Miller, rural Shipshewana.

Funeral services were held Oct. 25 at the Amos Bontrager residence.
