LILI LOEWEN

Lili Loewen died Sept. 6. She was born July 26, 1910 in Alexanderkrone, Ukraine to David and Anna Harder. She married Jacob Goossen. They did not receive permission to leave Russia so escaped to China. They lived in Kuldja. In 1939 Jacob was jailed and Lili had to work to support the family. Two sons and 1 daughter died there. Jacob was returned to Russia in 1941 and never heard from again. In 1946 she travelled to Shanghai and in 1948, with help from MCC, was able to immigrate to Yarrow, B.C. She bought a house in Vancouver, taking in tenants. She was a dressmaker. She was active in Vancouver MB Church, singing in the choir. Son Peter died in 1967. In 1975 she married Abram Loewen. They moved to Clearbrook, joining Clearbrook MB Church. She sang in the choir and arranged flowers for the church. Daughter Leni died in 1981. Abram died in 2000. She moved into Ebenezer Home in Apr. 2004. She was a loving, generous person. In spite of tragedies she was positive and cheerful, with an inner peace and steadfast faith. She was involved in raising her grandchildren. Predeceased by Jacob, Abram, daughters Frieda, Leni, sons Martin, Otto, Peter, she is mourned by her grandchildren. The funeral was Sept. 10 in Clearbrook MB Church.
