Pastor Emeritus of Mt. Lake Church Dies at Age 92

Mt. Lake, Minn. — Funeral services were conducted at the Gospel Mennonite Church here on Nov. 22 for Rev. Henry H. Quiring, 92, pastor emeritus of the church since 1942. Rev. Arnold Epp, the present pastor, officiated.

Rev. Quiring suffered a stroke on Nov. 14 at his home, and died Nov. 22 at the Bethel Hospital. A lifelong resident of this area, he served as assistant pastor of the church, then known as the Bergfelder Mennonite Church, from 1911 to 1934 and as pastor from 1934 to 1942. He also engaged in farming.

Survivors include two sons, Henry S. of Marion, S. D. and Samuel of Seattle, Wash.; seven daughters, Mrs. Henry Penner of Darfur, Minn., Anna of the home, Mrs. Jacob N. Sawatzky of Mt. Lake, Tina Quiring and Mrs. Elmer Dick, both missionaries to the Congo, Mrs. Garwin Clevenger of Lima, O., and Mrs. Rudy Janzen of Mt. Lake; one sister, Mrs. Kate Neufeld of Dallas, Orel; two brothers, John H. and Abe, both of St. James, Minn.; 25 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

H. H. Quiring, pastor emeritus of the Gospel Church, Mountain Lake, Minn., was born in Lamberton, Minn., on Sept. 26, 1878, and died Nov. 22. He was ordained to the ministry in 1909 and as an elder in 1934. He served the Gospel Church and the Immanuel Church, Delft, Minn., from 1911 to 1942. He was the father of Tina Quiring and Esther Quiring Dick, missionaries to the Congo.
