MRS. SUSAN BONTRAGER

Susan Maye (Miller) Bontrager, daughter of John J. and Barbara (Yoder) Miller was born March 27, 1907 at Kalona, Iowa, and died in her sleep at her home in Kalona on July 3, 1972, aged 65 years.

On March 17, 1935 she was married to Fernandis J. Bontrager, who survives. To this union three children were born: Duane Franklin (deceased 1940), Emma Grace, Mrs. Werner Will of Macomb, Ill., and Joyce Anne, Mrs. Carroll Lehman, of Holland, Mich. She is also survived by two brothers, Leroy V. and Thomas H. Miller, and six grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents and her sister, Emma, Mrs. Sherman Miller.

Funeral services were held July 6 at 1:30 p.m. at Sunnyside Mennonite Church. Revs. Morris Swartzendruber and David L. Yoder officiated. Interment was in East Union Cemetery.

In her youth Susan confessed Christ as her Saviour and was baptized into the fellowship of the Amish Church. At the time of her death she was a member of the Sunnyside congregation of the Conservative Mennonite Church. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school and Bible school classes and helped in the women's sewing and relief activities as long as her health allowed. During the last six years of her life, her participation was limited because she was confined to her bed or wheelchair. Family record keeping was Susan's hobby for many years and in 1957 she published the Family Record of John J. and Magdalena Miller.
