KATIE WIENSZ

Katie Wiensz died Oct. 8. She was born Jan. 27, 1910 in Omsk Post, Siberia, Russia to Franz and Anna Froese . She was un- able to have adequate schooling because of the political condi- tions. In 1924 the family immigrated to Aberdeen, Sask ., then to Laird. She accept- ed Jesus and was baptized June 25, 1925, joining Laird MB Church. The family moved to Mayfair, Sask. She was a housemaid in Saskatoon. She attended Bethany Bible In- stitute, Hepburn, Sask ., for 2 years. She worked as a cook at MB Bible College, Win- nipeg. She moved to Vancouver, working in homes and restaurants. She married George Wiensz, a widower from Los Angeles, Cal. Nov. 30, 1961. They worked at the cafete- ria at Biola and attended the Church of the Open Door. George died Ma r. 21 , 1970. She moved to Clearbrook, B.C., working in the kitchen of Columbia Bible College. After retirement she hosted people in her apart- ment and visited shut-ins and those in hos- pitals and nursing homes. She mothered her nieces and nephews. She was admitted to Menno Home in December 2002, a chal- lenge to her independent spirit. Prede- ceased by George, 2 brothers and 2 sisters, she is mourned by brothers Frank and John ; stepchildren. The funeral was Oct. 15 in Clearbrook MB Church.
