— John Bestvater, 88, who farmed north of Newton for many years, died Jan. 9 at the Bethesda Home in Goessel where he had resided since the death of his wife in December 1968. He was a member of the First Mennonite Church, Newton. Born in Russia, he came to this area in 1894. The funeral was conducted Monday afternoon at the Miller funeral Home in Goessel, with Rev. Robert Suderman officiating. Mr. Bestvater leaves two daughters, Mrs. Esther Phipps of Sublette and Mrs. Art Fenton of Colorado springs, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
