SUSIE MARTENS

(Mrs.) Susie Martens of Clearbrook, B.C. passed away on January 17. She was born to Abram and Margareta Janzen on November 27, 1892 in Kuterla, Neu Samara, Russia. At age 16 she accepted Christ as her Saviour and the following year she was baptised and joined the Mennonite Brethren church. In 1920 she married Herman Martens, and they immigrated to Alberta in 1927. farming in Tofield and La Glace. In 1945 the family moved to Greendale, B.C., and in 1950 to Vancouver. In 1959 they retired and moved to Clearbrook, where her husband died in May 1969. She is survived by sons Abraham and wife Katherine of Clearbrook, and Jack and wife Martha of Victoria; daughters and spouses: Margaret and Willie Matties of Yar- row, B.C., Anne and Jake Enns of Vancouver and Susan and Chuck McWhirter of Maple Ridge, B.C.; 15 grandchildren and 21 great- grandchildren. One daughter, Mary, died in 1943. The funeral took place on January 19 in the Menno Home Chapel, with Peter Unger officiating and Herman Lenzmann and John Baerg ministering.
