EMMA LYDIA WEDEL
Emma Lydia Kaufman Wedel was born on Oct. 5, 1885, in Pretty Prairie, Kan. to Jacob and Anna Krehbiel Kaufman.
Mother was baptized and became a member of the Pretty Prairie Mennonite Church on April 8, 1900. With her parents she moved to the Moundridge, Kan. community. She united with the First Mennonite Church in 1901, remaining a member until the time of her death.
On July 28, 1907, she was married to Peter P. Wedel, and with him shared 60 years of wedded life. Eight children — two sons and six daughters — came to complete the home.
Mother was a great lover of nature, especially bird and flowers. She was a loving wife and mother, often having to stay at home with the children while father attended conferences and held meetings. She also had a keen sense of justice.
For the past two years our parents lived in the Memorial Home at Moundridge. Until recently mother enjoyed reasonably good health. Following a 12-week illness, death came quietly to relieve her of her pain.
She leaves to mourn her departure her beloved husband, Rev. P. P. Wedel; two sons, Richard and Silas, and six daughters, Erma (Mrs. Jake J. Vogt), Wilma (Mrs. Eli Stucky), Maryann (Mrs. Maurice Lawler), Laura Mae (Mrs. Willis Voran), Esther (Mrs. Caroll Waltner), and DeLores (Mrs. Gordon Sawatzky), and their companions; 20 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, three brothers and many other relatives and friends.
We may not grieve as others who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep (1 Thess. 4:13-14.) — The Family.
