LAM MAN FUNG

Lam Man Fung passed away Mar. 26. He was bom in 1958 in Hong Kong. He was quiet and self-disciplined and had a passion for reading. He loved playing soccer, swim- ming, camping, hiking and riding his bicycle. He enjoyed music and learned to play classi- cal guitar. He accepted Christ as a teen at an evangelistic meeting at a church close to his home. As a young adult, he felt God's call to serve while at a summer church con- ference. He graduated from Hong Kong Bap- tist University in 1982 and enrolled in the Seminary of the Evan- gelical Free Church in 1984, but left after a year, following some disharmony in his local church. He began at- tending Lam Tin Al- liance Church, where he met the church planter, Ms Lam Siu Ling. He taught Sun- day school and served as a deacon, slowly re- building his faith in serving others. He taught Chinese to for- eign missionaries, and through them consid- ered serving in full- time ministry again. He married Siu Ling in Augun 1989. He earned an M.Div. from China Graduate School of Theology in 1993. He pastored Lek Yuen Church 1993- 2000 . He touched many lives with his sensitive manner, ob- servant ways and lis- tening skills. In 1999 he completed chap- laincy training. In Au- gust 2000 he came to Canada to pastor Tri- City Chinese Christian Church in Coquitlam, B.C. On Mar. 23, 2001 he was admitted to hospital because of ab- dominal pain; 3 tu- mours were discov- ered in his liver. He un- derwent surgery Apr. 26. He recovered rapidly and by the end of july resumed full du- ties at church. In Octo- ber, he began experi- encing pain in his low- er back. He preached his last sermon Nov. 25 on "Life Without Regrets" based on 2 Tim. 4:5-8. Cancer was confirmed in janu- ary. It later spread to his lungs. He was hos- pitalized Mar. 4. He was ordained Mar. 10 in the hospital. He continued to encour- age his family and congregation with joshua 24:15b. He is moumed by Siu Ling; children jonathan and joyce; his parents; 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
