ISAAC GOERTZEN

Isaac David Goertzen of Ste. Anne, Manitoba passed away on February 15. He was born on June 12, 1901 to David and Anna (Hiebert) Goertzen in Waldheim, Taurida, in southern Russia. He accepted Jesus as his personal Saviour at 17 and was baptized and received into the Waldheim Mennonite Brethren church the same year. He married Maria Ewert in 1925. In 1926 they emigrated to Canada, came first to Ontario and shortly thereafter to Manitoba. They lived in several locations in Manitoba until moving onto the farm at Ste. Anne in 1932, where they lived up to the present. He and his wife celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1975. Though they experienced trying times, they enjoyed the grace of God and mutual support and experienced many good years. His commitment to the Lord and the church were strong and for 22 years he served as deacon in the Steinbach MB church. He particularly enjoyed the participation in the singing.

Predeceased by an infant son, he is survived by his wife Maria; six sons, John and Betty, David, Abe and Irmy, Henry and Margaret, Cornie and Hilda, and Peter and Marilyn, all of Manitoba; four daughters, Adina and Ken Wicklund, Minneapolis, and Martha and Cornelius Rempel, Agnes and Helmuth Klassen and Annie and Clifford Arlt, all of Manitoba; 29 grandchildren; and numerous other friends and relatives.
