PETER GOERTZEN

Peter Goertzen of St. Catherines, Ont. was called home to be with the Lord on January 1 after many years of illness. He was born to David and Katharina Goertzen in southern Russia on September 26, 1908 and emigrated to Canada with his parents in 1926. They made their first home in Canada in New Hamburg, Onto He accepted Christ as his Saviour in his youth and was baptized and received into the membership of the Mennonite Brethren church in New Hamburg. On July 1,1934 he was married to Mary Braun, a union blessed with four children. After living in New Hamburg and Kitchener for a number of years, they moved to Virgil, Ontario in 1946. For the last 14 years they had lived in St. Catharines and were members of the Scott St. MB Church. He received many blessings from the church fellowship, though his illness kept him away during his last years. He is survived by his wife Mary; three sons, Walter and Elma of Calgary, Peter and Charlotte and Ernie and Joan of St. Catharines; and one daughter, Esther and Laurence Lagler of St. Catharines; seven grandchildren; as well as two brothers and a sister. The funeral was conducted from the Scott St. Church on January 4, with Henry Penner ministering.
