Injuries Suffered While Trimming Tree Prove Fatal
Elkhart, Ind. — Injuries suffered in an unusual accident while trimming a tree on Nov. 18 proved fatal on Nov. 26 to Simon M. Bontrager, 45, father of five children.
He was using a hand saw to work on the tree when the saw touched a nearby power line. He suffered severe hand foot burns, a concussion and internal injuries, and remained a patient at Elkhart General Hospital until his death.
Formerly of Mendon, Mich., Mr. Bontrager was employed by a local firm as a machinist. He was married here in 1965 to Donna J. Unger. She survives with three sons, the oldest a university student, and two daughters; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Moses Bontrager of Valley City, N. D.; a grandmother, Mrs. Anna Lehman of Lagrange; three brothers and six sisters.
He was a member of the Belmont Mennonite Church, where the funeral was conducted on Nov. 28.
