HENRY J. BRANDT

Henry J. Brandt, was born Nov. 9, 1879 in Marion County, Kan., to Jacob J. and Katherine Buller Brandt. As a young man he worked in the Klassen Flour Mill in Goessel and in a mill in Newton. Shortly after a tornado destroyed the Klassen Flour Mill in June 1906, he changed his occupation to farming.

Father was baptized upon the confession of his faith on June 3, 1900, by Elder Peter Balzer and received into the Alexanderwohl church. He later transferred his membership to the Tabor church, then to the Bethel Mennonite church near Dubois, Idaho, and later again to the Tabor church, where he remained a faithful member.

On May 9, 1907 he was married to Susie Lehrman, daughter of Henry and Susanna Voth Lehrman. To this union were born two sons and two daughters.

In the summer of 1914, they moved to Dubois, Idaho. Here they homesteaded and lived til drought caused them to return to Kansas in 1919, where they again took up farming.

In December, 1949 they moved to Goessel to retire. Our mother passed away, following a stroke on March 15, 1950.

In August, 1951, father married Mrs. Sara Schmidt. They lived on the place in Gossel [sic Goessel] until for health reasons they moved into the Bethesda Home in March, 1964. In May, 1962, father submitted to major surgery. Since then his health was limited. He entered Bethesda Hospital on May 25, and was relieved of all suffering when he went to meet his Master at about 11:45 p.m., July 10, reaching the age of 87 years, eight months and one day.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Sara at the Bethesda Home, Elmer J. and Stella Brandt, rural Canton; Olga and Adolf J. Bartel, rural Hillsboro; Hilda and Waldo Flaming, Reedley, Calif.; Milford H. and Elvena Brandt, rural Newton; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
