Leningrad Pastor Dies of Heart Attack; Visited U. S. in '65

Leningrad, U.S.S.R. — Anatol Kirukhantsev, 41-year-old pastor of the Leningrad Baptist Church, died of a heart attack Nov. 26.

He was a member of the Soviet Baptist delegations which visited North American Mennonites in 1964 and 1965.

Mr. Kirukhantsev was born in a minister's home and was converted in his late teens. Moving to Moscow after World War II, he was one of four young ministers chosen for theological study abroad. He spent two years at Spurgeon's College in London. He became pastor of the Leningrad church in 1960. The church has more than 3,000 members.

The pastor was an evangelist preacher. He addressed the pastors conference during the Baptist World Congress in Miami Beach in 1965 on "The Church in the Struggle for Peace." He had participated also in the Baptist Youth World Conference at Beirut in 1963.

He was a member of the presidium (administrative committee) of the All-Union Council and of the Executive Committee of the Baptist World Alliance.
